Wexford, Waterford & South Tipperary
Further to the South East are counties Wexford, Waterford and South Tipperary. The region is known for its intimate fishing villages as well as the regional capital Waterford and Viking Wexford. The region also boasts some of Ireland’s finest beaches and well known historic sites.
Wexford has many unique visitor attractions including the Irish National Heritage Park, Hook Lighthouse and the gardens at Johnstown Castle. It also has numerous long sandy beaches that are popular with holidaymakers. There are a variety of activities on offer including golf, water sports and walking tours. The annual Wexford Opera Festival takes place in Wexford Town and attracts audiences from all over the world.
Waterford City is the capital of the South East and Ireland’s oldest city. A number of museums and attractions tell the city’s story including Reginald’s Tower and the Bishops Palace Museum. Waterford is renowned for its festivals with the Spraoi Street festival in August providing fun for all the family. The Harvest Food Festival and a variety of arts and cultural festivals mean that there is always something happening in the county.
South Tipperary is very popular with its scenic countryside and bustling towns such as Cahir, Cashel and Clonmel. There are numerous lopped walks and trails to discover. The region also offers a number of interesting attractions including the Rock of Cashel and Cahir and Ormonde Castles.
