In county Mayo explore the Céide Fields in Ballycastle. This is a 1,500 hectare archaeological site of stone walls, field systems, enclosures and tombs, dating from about 5,000 years ago, which have been preserved beneath the bog. The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life is home to the national collection of objects representing the traditional way of life in Ireland since 1850. Other attractions to visit in Mayo include Westport House & Gardens, the Quiet Man Cottage Museum at Cong, Achill Island and Croagh Patrick.
Roscommon is a county full of castles, stately homes and historic sites alongside beautiful landscapes and countryside. Strokestown Park House, Garden and Famine Museum, King House Georgian Mansion and Boyle Abbey are just some of the many interesting sites to visit. There are many trails and walks in the region including at the popular Lough Key Forest and Activity Park.
